Arts and Entertainment
Although not a "Big City," Modesto's variety
of excellent entertainment will pleasantly surprise you! Here you will find
the best of both worlds, a small-town atmosphere combined with big city
attractions. Performances are well done and seats are modestly priced. Modesto
affords one the opportunity to escape the frenetic world of the large metropolis
without sacrificing the finer and more interesting things in life.
The Central California Art League Gallery, located at 1015
J Street in the Mistlin Art Gallery,
supports the visual arts in Modesto by offering paintings, sculpture,
graphics and selected crafts of local artists.
Classic music lovers enjoy the Modesto Symphony, which offers a season of
nine concerts, (Sept.-May) and the Townsend Opera Players, which present
several full opera productions, a Broadway musical classic, the Messiah, a New
Year's Eve concert and a "Great Opera Choruses" production each year.
Musical concerts for all tastes are provided by the Dixieland Jazz Society,
the State Theatre concert series, Modesto Band's Concerts in the Park, Modesto
Melody Makers and Sweet Adelines. The music and drama departments of both
Modesto Junior College and California State University Stanislaus present
concerts, recitals, plays and more!
